March Madness really describes this month well!  For me it has been a roller coaster ride.  I've ordered some gorgeous flowers to experiment with and I end up selling them.  Normally March is slow for flowers, but not this year.  Funerals, birthdays, just because, and weddings have been keeping me busy.  We are also offering $15 a bunch while they last.  We have 10% off Tues and in store most stuff is 50% off.

We are trying to clear out our gift shop so that we only have plants and pots in there and some really nice vases.  Celebrate the women in your life by buying them gifts from Peacock Florist.  I especially love the sprinkler we have, it's a fawn that is so life-like.

Order over the phone or come in and see us.  Spring is coming and who doesn't want to celebrate with brightly colored flowers.  Buy by the bunch and you can arrange them yourself!

Valentine's Ordering

I have something that is bugging me and need to share.  I ask myself why a customer would go through order takers instead of going through their florist or calling a florist directly?  When you go through an order taker, they take their 20% right off the bat for just taking the order.  So with delivery, flower arrangement, and taxes, and maybe a wire service charge, it's costing you more and you are getting less.  The receiving florist gets the amount for flowers and for delivery.  Remember, they took 20% right off the bat, then the florist is going to subtract the delivery charge and the amount left over is your arrangement.  You could have started out with a much higher priced arrangement, but the florist has the full brunt of the costs and wouldn't make any money...so something has to give.

This is why you should get on the internet and find that florist in the town you're sending flowers to.  Don't have a computer?  Go to the library or to a friend's or to your local florist.  I am not a fan of order takers like Pro Flowers, teleflora, ftd, and so on.  Go to flower shop network and search for a florist in the town you want and call them directly.  Go to google and type in florist and the town and state you want to send flowers to.  I would love to put order takers out of business, not only do they put the screws to you, but they also put the screws to florists!

So when you're ordering your flowers for your sweetheart, call a local florist!  They will probably bend over backwards to help you out and you can't get that kind of service through an order taker!

Hot August Days

Here at Peacock Florist, we have blooming flowers in hot August days.  Summers are usually slow for regular flower orders, except for weddings and funerals.  I have been lucky enough to be able to use my home grown flowers for some awesome designer's choice flowers.  I have done some gorgeous Flemish designs and Ikebana designs this year.

It helps to have some great vases.  I did a large Flemish design and covered a white urn in lamb's ear leaves so it had a soft green sheen.  It set the whole feeling for the arrangement.  Most of the flowers came from my garden and a friend's garden to showcase some unusual flowers. The other flowers came from the wholesaler.  One person wanted exotic flowers because he liked them...it was a funeral arrangement.  So I did a mix of ginger, bird of paradise, and anthurium and made a Flemish arrangement because she ordered two large arrangements.  They were both striking.  I used a colorful collector's pitcher so that I could use oranges, blues, and reds to highlight the pitcher.

Doing what you love should come first!  The money will follow especially when you love what you do and it shows.  When someone says Designer's Choice, it's my cue to having fun for what I love to do!  Call EdenScapes @ 360-417-0464 for your next order to Port Angeles, Sequim, or Joyce.  We are slowly changing our name to Peacock Florist.  You can put in:  www.peacockflorist.com or www.edenscapes1.com

We do have a shop that you can come and check us out.  We'd love you to come visit and take advantage of our sales.

May Flowers

April showers bring May flowers.   We had an unusually warm April tricking my vegetable garden and flower garden thinking it was summer.  My kale and brussel sprouts bolted on me.  Well, it's a good thing I don't depend on my flower garden for flowers...all my daffodils and tulips are on their way out.

In my flower cooler I have tulips, roses, snapdragons, larks spur, geberra daisies, and sweet smelling stock and stargazer lilies.  Not to mention various other flowers and foliages! We can make an arrangement of just foliages.  Just give us a call!
Mother's Day was heavenly with the "Amazing May Bouquet" and "Lavender Luxury".  It's time to start selling $10 bouquets as Mother's Day is today and I don't want to waste flowers just sitting in the cooler!

It's better to over order than to under order!  So stop by and pick up a small bouquet of mixed flowers tomorrow for $10!  Thank You for supporting EdenScapes Peacock Florist and Gifts.  Gifts are 50% off!

Garden

The weather has been great in our area that I have been able to get out and weed.  I am ready for compost.  I planted bulbs and tubers of all kinds and this Spring and Summer, my garden will be in full bloom and gorgeous.  I paid for last year's bulbs and tubers, now to pay for this years flowers through funeral and arrangements.

Even if I don't, they will be worth having and I will have to have a few BBQ's to show them off.  I have some amazing flowers if they all bloom.  My vegetable gardens will soon be ready to plant as soon as it warms to a steady 50 degrees...but that might be awhile!

I will set out traps like some oil in a lid to get those earwigs and if I'm lucky, some slugs.  I will try a new thing with cucumbers on foil to keep the bugs out, but not in my vegetable garden.  The body doesn't need aluminum and doesn't produce it and therefore, aluminum creates free radicals and is related to memory loss, Parkinson's, MS, and who knows what else.  Free Radicals cause cancer.  Dairy and eggs and red meat also are related to memory loss.  The body also doesn't need an excess of iron, so cook in a stainless steel pot or pan...go with more fruits and vegetables.  But I digress, the point is to get rid of harmful bugs without harming the good bugs.  Earwigs can be gotten if you lay a rolled up newspaper and then the next morning go and put that in a plastic bag and seal it and toss it!  You can tell when you've got a healthy garden when you have a lot of worms.  Some people like weeds because they aerate the soil.  Worms live under the leaves that give them protection or nutrients.  Microbes eat your kitchen waste and between them and the worms turn it into soil.  So be cautious with the cucumber and aluminum, you don't want to get rid of the good bugs.

My cut flowers from my garden can go back into the garden unlike flowers I get from my wholesaler.  That goes into a separate pile because of pesticides.  It will be filler for my yard dips. Hey, maybe the earwigs will get into that pile :)  So the next time you order flowers, are you ordering from your local florist?  With computers, you can call a florist direct in another city...do not use Teleflora, ProFlowers, or 800 Flowers...they are order takers!  Call the florist direct so she/he gets the money and not the order taker!  the florist still has to use the wholesaler for flowers most of the time because they can't possibly have the variety that the wholesaler can get.

Have fun gardening and growing your own flowers.

Spring is coming! Spring is coming!

It is getting to be the end of February and I have been busy weeding my garden beds.  Actually, I started in January because we've had such a mild winter.  I have bulbs popping up and my heart was lighten when I visualized all the new colors and textures I would have.

Being a florist, I can order flowers pretty much all through the year.  If it's out of season, it will be more expensive.  Some things I can't because their season is so short...like Lilies of the Valley.  They are heavenly smelling, dainty,  and have about a two week span.

I had an order for cut flowers and didn't have those particular flowers.  I suggested a plant instead...upon learning that she was a Master Gardener (and they usually don't do indoor plants).  So I made a Garden Dish with pink hyacinth and colorful tulips.  Then to brighten it up, I put some colorful roses in water tubes.  She was happy and so was I with knowing that the bulbs would have a happy home...I love Spring!

I love creating new arrangements and sometimes getting my husband involved so my mechanics work.  I have grandiose ideas for arrangements, but no place that's suitable to place them.  So, when spring comes with the colors and textures, sizes, and shapes...my creative mind blossoms.  I make rainbows with the different colors melding together.  I make towers of flowers!  So when I see new life sprouting, I want to yell from the rooftop...Spring is Coming!  Spring is Coming!!!!

Bringing in the New Year

I don't know about you, but I'm bringing in the New Year with someone I love.  We had a nice home cooked meal and are kicking back.  I think of all the fun arrangements I did and also expanded my education through the Floral Design Institute.  I'm planning an art installation in a public place and recycling at the same time and combining art and flowers.  I foresee exciting things happening in my future.I will be enjoying  my way through life just by creating with two of my loves, art and flowers.

The New Year is full of hope, peace, and love.  Spread the love through flowers and show the man, woman, or child in your life you love and adore them through flowers.  Men love flowers too, they might not tell you because they might not think it's manly, but they do.  Your local florist can do some really cool Ikebana arrangements that are on the masculine side...go ask your favorite florist!  Many like outdoor plants, you can ask your local florist and if you're calling long distance, many florists have local nurseries they do business with to give a gift of outdoor plants.  Winter is a hard time to buy outdoor flowering plants, but Helebores are wonderful to give gloomy Winter days a little color.  I personally like their leaves for texture in arrangements as well.

Need more color in your arrangements?  Ask your florist to do a Flemish arrangement with lemons, they can get expensive, but the color is great to brighten your New Year's!  Happy New Year's to one and all and God Bless everyone!
